Farewell Jenny Calmeyer

IOPSA national administrator Jenny Calmeyer, who recently retired after 16 years of service, was formally bid farewell at IOPSA Gauteng’s technical evening at PlumbDrain Africa 2014.

Jenny received a ticket-for-two on boat cruise and bouquet of flowers before announcing that she experienced a lot of wonderful times while working with IOPSA, made a lot of friends, will miss everybody and encouraged those in the industry to please attend the World Plumbing Conference, which she believes is the best part of being a part of IOPSA.

Women in Water

The Minister of Water and Sanitation, Nomvula Mokonyane, recently warned those who are selling water to poor communities in an attempt to further prevent theft associated with water allocation.

Speaking at the annual Women in Water Awards event in Rustenburg, the minister told hundreds of women that as long as there are women in sections of communities who still don’t have access to clean drinking water “it was not yet uhuru (freedom)”.

“Twenty years of democracy is meaningless unless all women have access to clean drinking water. The death of three babies in Bloemhof in June is regrettable. Water must not kill. It must give life.” Read more

A bandana can give someone a future

“We all have hopes and dreams. By purchasing a bandana for R25 you could make a difference and offer those fighting leukaemia and other life threatening blood disorders a chance of a future” states Tarryn Corlett, Chief Operating Officer for The Sunflower Fund.

12th October is National Bandana Day. The Sunflower Fund encourages the public to buy a bandana from their nearest Pick n Pay or local Round Table, including Namibia and wear it to show their support towards the brave fight that these patients face on a daily basis when they lose their hair from their chemotherapy treatments. It is officially spring, and while others might be enjoying the sunshine and butterflies, spring also means the use of more water and hopefully more business to the plumbing industry.

The World Health Organisation has declared plumbers the most important front-line health workers around the globe, and your ‘hidden’ work is an essential requirement for our daily lives, especially when living in close communities.

You can, however, actively remind your customers to be more aware of water saving systems and green living, do your bit to save our precious resource. Read more

Business tip
of the day:

Preparing your annual budget is probably one of the least appealing parts of being an entrepreneur. But you don’t do your business – or its customers – any favours by putting it off.
