Robbie is the regional sales manager for Cobra Watertech in the Western Cape, now part of Grohe Dawn Watertech.
“I started out by working for my late father, Mike Webb, who had a business named Plumeasy: a plumbing materials wholesaler. He will probably be remembered for making waste traps out of rubber. Having left working for him to change direction, it is ironic that I ended up having a lifelong career in plumbing,” says Webb.
He went into the music and recording business, which he says was — and probably still is — his first passion, but joined Cobra, where he has been ever since – 27 years later. “Through all the years of learning about plumbing products, it has become what I know, and where I feel most at home.”
He says he sees his future contributing to Cobra’s life under the changed shareholding. “I have no doubt Grohe’s investment in South Africa will set new levels in our industry — as they do in Europe and beyond. I hope to be a part of that,” he says.
“I’m proud of getting to understand water reticulation design. Managing the roll‑out of the first Cobra showroom in Cape Town was also exciting and fulfilling,” Webb says.
His work philosophy is simple. “I believe in honesty and fairness — whether it concerns people or products, and I try to ensure whatever I am involved in gives fair value and returns. I am not a salesman by nature, and have been lucky to deal with products that sold themselves.”
“I am grateful to have worked with icons like Tubby Boyton‑Lee, Ken Kearns, Martin Coetzee and Derek Tod. Each should teach us something new. I believe we need to contribute by imparting what we know to younger people. There is an immense amount of talent and enthusiasm among our youth and I look forward to a South Africa that is kind to all of its people.”
