Refurbished geysers are still being sold to an unsuspecting public.

Supplied by IOPSA

Adverts are still popping up on Facebook, Gum Tree, Junkmail and other platforms for illegal refurbished geysers. These geysers are not SANS compliant, have not been tested and are subject to shoddy repairs and acid washes. However, they are still being sold to the public and marketed to them as perfectly safe.

These geysers are not safe at all. Many have been acid washed. They will not ultimately save clients more money as they may indeed contribute to higher electricity bills and even higher water bills due to leaks. They also pose electric shock and explosion risk, among other things.

Be on the lookout for these illegal geysers and report them as soon as you see them – with an accompanying photo or screenshot if you can. IOPSA is working to get as many of these illegal geysers off the streets as they can, and have a streamlined system of reporting these directly to NRCS. Send your reports and photos to technical@iopsa.co.za.
