Plumbing Africa reported on the seizure of illegal geysers on 16 October. The sale of illegal geysers continues.
Plumbers are encouraged to be on the lookout for illegal geysers, and when spotted, to report them directly to IOPSA’s technical department (technical@iopsa.org). At the same time, plumbers are also encouraged to advise their clients on the use of these illegal geysers, and warn them that they could be risking damage to their homes and endangering their lives by installing these sub-par products.
In a previous article – Refurbished geysers seized – Plumbing Africa Publication – it was reported that illegal geysers to the value of R400 000 had been seized. The National Regulator of Compulsory Standards has continued to issue media alerts, calling on all industry players, contractors, insurance companies, consumers and other interested parties not to manufacture, sell, buy or use non-compliant second-hand or refurbish domestic geysers that have not been approved by the NRCS.
These alerts extremely clear and highlight that these non-complaint refurbished/re-conditioned geysers expose consumers to serious hazards like electric shock, explosion and more.
IOPSA supports the NRCS’s mandate of protecting human health, safety, the environment and ensuring fair trade as well as rooting out non-compliant products in the market.
IOPSA therefore would like to bring the following concerning information/adverts to NRCS attention for urgent investigation.
The person/entity advertising the refurbished geyser: Indus Alloy

Please note that there is no such thing as a Kwikot USED geyser. They are refurbished and illegal. The other trick applied now is they purchase the Kwikot geyser blanket further implying it is a Kwikot geyser. That is committing fraud, and the guarantee is NOT underwritten by Kwikot should one ask.
IOPSA has reported this and others to the NRCS as they have done in the past noting the dangers of such illegal geysers.
