Plumbing is known as the ‘invisible service’ for very good reason. Once completed and covered up it is hoped that all will flow smoothly!

Sadly, this is not always the case. Pipes get blocked or burst and taps get broken/stolen/destroyed – all adding to consequential damage, burdening the homeowners with higher insurance premiums. Just consider the failing infrastructure around us and the diseases starting to appear!

Shops, shopping centres, all manner of businesses and properties realise the value of plumbing as soon as something goes wrong.

A starting point when appointing a plumber is to establish that he/she is qualified under the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) or a Red Seal plumber. The plumber needs to be able to present proof.

Use a person that is not qualified and YOU (homeowner, Ops manager, facilities manager, property owner, guest house owner, etc.) are breaking the law.

A qualified plumber takes three to four years of study, practical work and on the job training to qualify. He/she learns about hydraulics, pressure, pipe sizing, design, standards. This is done to ensure the health and safety of people.

Plumbing is highly regulated by compulsory standards for, pipes, fittings, mixers, taps fittings, materials – enabling the qualified plumber to offer you a great service.

Plumbing Travelling Exhibition (PTE) now goes from area to area to expose plumbers, business owners, restaurateurs, facility managers, engineers, and all those that at some time or another will encounter water and plumbing, to innovative plumbing technology.

As a responsible exhibition organiser and publisher of Plumbing Africa we ONLY ALLOW SOUTH AFRICAN NATIONAL STANDARDS (SANS) accredited manufacturers and suppliers to exhibit, protecting the plumber and everyone else.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Durban/KZN Plumbing Exhibition and PTE Workshop on 1 June, 11h00 to 16h00 at Northwood Crusaders Club, Durban North. Entrance is free. There are prizes to be won and if you are early the first 100 Plumber visitors will receive a free boerie roll and water!

Most importantly, by visiting the PTE exhibition it shows that you are serious about water and safe plumbing.
