“We have more than doubled the number of stores in our network since we were acquired by the Bidvest Group in 2015. Plumblink currently has more than 105 branches located throughout the key provinces of Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape. This while also adequately servicing the demand for our quality products in Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West, Northern Cape and Eastern Cape via more than 30 branches. From another ultra-modern branch in Windhoek, we are also catering to the high demand for our products in Namibia as we increasingly expand into new growth markets,” Luvuyo Mgidlana, operations and commercial director, says.

Facilitated by Plumblink’s revolutionary distribution system, stock is always available at the company’s stores. Large amounts of product are carried in nine sophisticated distribution centres in all provinces. It is then distributed to the various branches and smaller warehouses via a highly efficient transport logistics system.

Customers also receive a professional and solutions-driven service at all Plumblink’s stores. Qualified staff are always available to provide expert advice to customers and the company’s estimating teams operate at a regional level to ensure competitive pricing of quality goods.

Since 2015, Plumblink’s staff complement has increased from just more than 800 to over 1 270 people to support the company’s exponential growth under the Bidvest Group banner. Many of these skilled and experienced employees are also based at Plumblink’s head office, which provides strategic support to all the stores. For example, the head office marketing department works closely with the operations team to ensure Plumblink can efficiently reach its customers on store fronts, one of many key platforms. Moreover, the information technology team is constantly honing and refining the advanced digital systems that form an integral part of best practice at Plumblink’s stores.

In these stores, customers can shop for products themselves, as opposed to having to order at the counter. Notably, the company was the first to introduce this innovative concept in the plumbing market that is providing plumbers with a quicker and more efficient buying experience. It is also an effective way of introducing plumbers to new technology and innovation so that they are always at the cutting edge of industry practice.

“For more than 100 years, a bedrock of our success has been the reliable service that we offer to all our customers. This ability was significantly strengthened when we became a proud member of the Bidvest Group. Less than five years later, in 2019, we had already opened our 100th branch to make it even easier for more customers to access our wide range of branded, high quality and competitively priced products,” Mgidlana concludes.
