Well-known wet services consulting engineer, Steve Franklin, has sent Plumbing Africa a photograph of a removed and failed heat accumulator hot water storage vessel, which was part of a heat pump installation.

Franklin advises, “Specifier and buyer beware. Check what is inside those smart looking heat accumulators!”
The inside revealed heating coils submerged in the lower cold-water zone with an inadequate coil support frame of UPVC pipe which had softened and collapsed in the hot water.
Franklin says, “Do not specify and buy on price only. Check specifications, materials, and manufacturing company history.”
