Tankless water heaters produce hot water on demand. How do they work?

Tankless water heaters are becoming more popular – especially in new homes. Storage tank heaters hold hot water in an insulated tank so that it can be used when needed. Tankless heaters produce heated water on demand.
Cold water goes into the tankless heater and comes out heated at the chosen temperature. Gas water heaters or electrical water heaters are used, but produce the same result: hot water.
The tankless heaters may be a little more costly, but over time they prove to be more efficient, which is why they are gaining popularity. Tankless heaters don’t store water. The cold water is heated up and delivered as and when needed. And, because these are more compact, they can be wall-mounted, meaning that homeowners have an opportunity to make the most of the freed-up space.
The tankless water heater can deliver between about 8–19ℓ of hot water a minute. The drawback, though, is that if you need to use hot water in two locations – for example the shower and the kitchen sink – the water may not be as hot as one would like. In these instances, separate water heaters can be installed.
Tankless heaters can help homeowners take control of the amount of electricity and water that is used in the house, cutting down bills and making water use more efficient.
