IOPSA members across South Africa dedicated World Plumbing Day to helping communities in need.
World Plumbing Day was commemorated on 11 March 2024 and IOPSA members dove in to assist communities in need without hesitation in order to mark the day, and to demonstrate the great value of the plumber in the communities they serve.
Dedicated teams across a number of regions including Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Free State and Western Cape demonstrated their commitment to enhancing lives through plumbing excellence.
Gauteng participated in an event hosted by the Plumbing Industry Registration Board (PIRB) where the team engaged with fellow plumbers. The Gauteng team also undertook the task of revamping two ablution blocks at Prestigious Primary School (formerly Park Ridge Primary School) in Vanderbijlpark. Sanitaryware and other products were donated by PlumbLink.
The KwaZulu-Natal team installed two 4 000ℓ rainwater tanks sponsored by Africa Tanks, at Paw Prints, a sanctuary for rescue animals. Local plumbers and residents united to bathe puppies, donate essential supplies and install the tanks. PIRB’s Lea Smith got knee deep into the efforts and swung a pickaxe for the day.
The SPCA in Bloemfontein benefitted from the IOPSA team in the Free State. They improved water and sanitation facilities, guaranteeing clean water and sanitation for both staff and animals.
In the Western Cape, the IOPSA team embarked on extensive plumbing upgrades and repairs in two venues for House of Hope. House of Hope cares for children and babies and having clean water and sanitary conditions contributes significantly to their well-being.
IOPSA’s efforts were supported by generous donations by sponsors, without which they would not have been able to uplift the communities that they serve.
Steve Brown, Executive Director of IOPSA remarked, “Let us not only celebrate the significance of plumbing in our daily lives, but also recognise the profound impact it can have on communities when wielded with care and compassion. IOPSA remains steadfast in its mission to champion excellence in plumbing. Together we build healthier, more vibrant communities, one pipe at a time.”
