IOPSA, Nedbank, Builders and Power4Less have come together to bring the public a revolutionary development in heating and water saving with the release of their IHP plan.

At an event held at Emperors Palace in Gauteng, the official release of the IHP programme with IOPSA, Nedbank, Builders and Power4Less was made on 15 May.
The programme seeks to replace geysers, or water heaters, with heat pumps that will not only cut costs for consumers, but have a greater impact on the environment and on relieving the burden on South Africa’s strained electrical grid.
The IHP geyser is supplied by Power4Less and available at Builders for purchase. Nedbank has stepped up to provide finance options for homeowners in the purchasing of one of these geysers. IOPSA has provided targeted training for plumbers in order for them to be certified installers of IHP geysers. Only plumbers who are registered with IOPSA and who have done the training in the installation of these geysers are allowed to install them.
The change that this brings is multifaceted. The consumer saves on energy and water, but the implications for the country are far greater. If ten thousand of these geysers are installed, they would be able to save a whopping 29 megawatts of energy. This would be the equivalent of having a virtual power station.
The #29MW is a prominent theme. The movement is to get as many people as possible to save on energy when it comes to water heating, to reduce carbon emissions and heavy reliance on the grid and to promote the larger impact that these actions will eventually have on society in South Africa – and potentially Africa – as a whole.
