Geberit Gauteng has kicked off its 150th anniversary celebrations.
Back in 1874, Geberit emerged in Switzerland as a one-man business. Today the company employs more than 10 000 people and has operations in 26 production facilities.
Back in South Africa, the company started off their anniversary celebrations with an event held at the Galleria in Sandton. Even the menu for the evening paid tribute to Geberit’s auspicious anniversary with fusion dishes symbolising heritage blended with innovation, quality married to innovative spirit and a dessert that provided an evolution of flavours to symbolise the movement from the past to the future. The delectable treats were a testament to the culinary talents of Chris Forrest and Jenny Morris.
The Johannesburg event was the first anniversary celebration held in South Africa for the 150-year milestone. Additional events are planned for Durban and Cape Town later in the year.
What started as a small business 150 years ago extends globally in 2024 with four of its production sites located in different countries. Geberit is credited with the invention of the first plastic cistern (1952) and the first concealed cistern (1964).
