A point of contention and, indeed, discussion, has been the decline of Johannesburg’s water infrastructure. Johannesburg Water has leapt into the future with technology in order to help build Johannesburg into a smart, sustainable and future forward city.

The organisation is in the process of deploying smart controllers to manage the pressure across the water network. These controllers will be responsible for reducing water loss, controlling demand and seeing residents of the city getting a reliable supply of water for their needs.
This means that the smart controllers need to be retrofitted to the outlets of reservoirs and towers. Along with these, pressure reducing valves in high demand areas are also expected to be fitted.
It is hoped that these controllers will lead to a lower incidence of pipe bursts and leaks – a critical step in conserving water and curbing water loss.
