These dangerous products are cause for great concern insofar as the damage they can cause and even death. we appeal to any plumber to avoid these cheap and nasty products.
The test requirements of one of the “refurbished “geysers would not pass inspection by my six-year-old grandson that’s how bad they are!
IOPSA and plumbers from all around SA are reporting these and IOPSA is actively engaging with the National Regulator for Compulsory Standards (NRCS). Keep it up please for the sake of our customers.
We still believe that the SA Insurance Industry Association (SAIA) should be insisting on a destruction certificate for every removed geyser. our pleading with them falls on deaf ears as Plumbing Africa and IOPSA have requested meeting with their Technical Team. Appears that that this is an area they would rather stay away from rather than the interest of their customers who pay their salaries.
However, we commend IOPSA and NRCS for the action they are taking and NRCS has closed down a few operations but like poisonous mushrooms they pop up again, quite happy to indulge in illegal activities and endanger lives.
SANS 151 is the only recognised, legal and compulsory standard that applies to geysers or hot water storage tanks as we should really call them.
It is good to note that the professional, established merchants and wholesalers do NOT carry these things, and should we be surprised that they are found in ‘backyard’ businesses that would sell their ‘mother’ if the price was good?
So, plumbers please keep feeding IOPSA these criminals selling non-SANS 151 geysers.
Action is being taken even if not made a public scene like in 2002 when one company had its stock raided and remains under lock and key.
Social media, who provide a wonderful medium for these illegal adverts should be careful and perhaps more responsible as they would be in the firing line should there ever be a legal case.
