The National Regulator of Compulsory Specifications (NRCS) has issued several media alerts in the past urging all industry stakeholders, contractors, insurance companies, consumers and other interested parties to refrain from manufacturing, selling, purchasing or using non-compliant second-hand or refurbished domestic geysers lacking NRCS approval.
These NRCS media alerts are clear in their content, with an emphasis on the risks these reconditioned or refurbished geysers pose to consumers. Non-compliant geyser use can include electric shock and explosion hazards.
A trader in non-compliant geysers has taken to advertising refurbished geysers on Facebook. Geysers must comply with the requirements of VC9006/LOA.
“IOPSA stands in support of the NRCS’s mission to safeguard human health, safety and the environment, ensuring fair trade and eliminating non-compliant products from the market,” says Steve van Zyl, National Technical Manager of IOPSA. “We cannot find a registered manufacturer, tradename or trademark called ‘Rainbow Geysers’.”
The matter has been reported to NRCS for urgent investigation.
