On 16 July 2026, the IOPSA Western Cape region gathered to spend their 67 minutes for Mandela Day doing repairs and maintenance of the plumbing systems at Llandudno Camp site.

The need for intervention
The Llandudno Camp site is a campsite that runs upliftment camps for school children and churches. It was in dire need of plumbing upgrades, and they were not receiving any funds from the government to maintain or upkeep the facilities. The geysers had also been installed in a dangerous way – “a disaster waiting to happen” said Richard Bailie.

“A big thank you to SupaHot, Wirquin, Advanced Valves and Splashworks for all the wonderful material they donated,” said Thomas Halbich, organiser of the initiative.
“Thank you to all of the members and students from Northlink College who came to help on the day – what a great effort. We changed the world for the better, just one little bit,” concluded Thomas.
