At the Plumbing Industry Awards hosted on 18 September 2025, a special announcement was made – the introduction of the IOPSA Legends, an award introduced to honour the legendary figures in the industry. These individuals were awarded a belt with a one-of-a-kind buckle, inscribed with their name and a serial number. They were also asked to sign their names in the IOPSA book – an immortalisation in IOPSA’s hall of fame. Here, we profile Steve Brown, executive director, an IOPSA legend.

Steve Brown did his trade test at Olifantsfontein in 1981 and served his apprenticeship with Inter Plumb in KwaZulu-Natal. He has been in the plumbing industry for 48 years.
When asked about the value that IOPSA offers to him as a member, Steve states “IOPSA, for me, is an all-encompassing business tool, with dedicated individuals who can add value to your business and staff. Further value lies in being a part of an internationally recognised organisation, with the plumbing industry at the front and centre of the organisation. IOPSA provides a platform to have a voice and stand apart from the rest.”

“I can comfortably say that those who received the recognition do what they do for the betterment of the industry and have been and will continue to do so for years to come. To me, being recognised for the contributions made is very special and much appreciated.”
